Character Builds / Build: Shaman 7/Shifter (PnP) 10/Duelist 23 (ShaDZilla)
« Latest: by ebonfowl on February 16, 2022, 07:25:20 PM »
This build yields probably the best tank possible with the current PRC options.  This build can take unheard of amounts of punishment that scales with level all the way to level 40.  This build, however, can also dish out a serious beating as well.  I call it Shaman-Duelist-Zilla.

What this build gives you: absolutely enormous AC capable of easily breaking 100 without any armor or buffs; 16 pre-epic BAB for 4 attacks/round; intelligence bonus to AC; charisma bonus to saves; devastating critical; +4d6 damage per attack when not wearing armor (Precise Strike); an animal companion that scales with level (even non-Shaman levels); a few spells from the Shaman list; turn undead (but only progresses until level 7); ability to see invisible creatures (Spirit Sight); and it can obtain huge DR from Shifter forms.

Weak points: enemies with critical immunity will slow you down, but you are a tank so you will win eventually; no healing to speak of making this build a good candidate for equipment with regeneration; due to low wisdom, this build cannot cast 4th level Shaman spells despite qualifying for them - I wouldn't worry about it, Shaman spellcasting is garbage.

Suggested forms: the biggest, baddest dragon equal to or less than your HD you can find!  Or anything with a high AC and DR that can fit through doors.

Note, make sure to buy off the half-ogre level adjustment as soon as you can (level 6 and 9).  For all this build's abilities to work you must 1) not wear any actual armor (clothes with an AC bonus and robes are fine), 2) wield a light piercing weapon (rapier works as you are innately large-sized), 3) not have anything in your off-hand, and 4) have fighting defensively turned on (enabling sticky combat modes is recommended).

Character Builds / Build: Cleric 12/Hospitaler 23/Hierophant 5 (Serial Crusher)
« Latest: by ebonfowl on February 16, 2022, 09:26:56 AM »
Build for today.  A divine caster gish monster that can serial crush with implosion.  I love this build because of how clean it is.  You don't really lose anything compared to a base cleric but you gain a ton.  Even the epic feats and epic bonus feats line up perfectly.  It seems like these 3 classes were meant to be combined in exactly this fashion.

What this build gives you: full cleric casting with no loss of caster levels and extremely good SR penetration; cleric buffing and healing; 17 pre-epic BAB for 4 attacks/round; 35/40 undead turning; devastating critical at level 21; extremely high save DCs for their spells, particularly evocation (implosion will end up with DCs in the 50s with WIS-boosting gear); heavy armor and tower shields; and uncanny dodge.

Weak points: only constructs with magic immunity will give this build trouble - it can devcrit or implode anything else; AC on this build is decent due to heavy armor use, tower shields, armor skin and racial natural armor bonus but is not godly; saves don't really get any notable boosts - be sure to mitigate this shortcoming with the best save-boosting equipment you can find.

Spell Suggestions:

- Implosion: instant death to everything, even those things immune to death magic, in a medium-sized area
- Sun Burst: huge damage to undead and permanent blindness to all
- Aura Versus Alignment: protects against some nasty status effects like fear and paralyze
- Hammer of the Gods: a good mid-level battlefield control spell
- Sound Burst: good low-level battlefield control spell
- Buffs: the cleric's real strength. Some suggestions, and remember you have Extend Spell to stretch them out: Divine Favor, Righteous Might, Battletide, Prayer, Recitation, Freedom of Movement, True Seeing, Premonition (fate), Mantle of Egregious Might (war)
- Recovery Spells: Heal, Lesser Restoration, Restoration, Greater Restoration, Regeneration
- War Domain Spells: keep one copy of the highest War Domain spell you have available prepared at all times to maximize the damage bonus from Holy Warrior

Note, make sure to buy off the half-ogre level adjustment as soon as you can (level 6 and 9).  Because all the active abilities in this build are in the vanilla game, this one makes a great custom cohort.  If you are OK with a high level of cheese (and have level adjustment turned off) you could switch Lightning Reflexes for Craft Wonderous Items at level 15 and you would then qualify for the lich template and the demilich template at level 21.  You must be lawful evil or neutral evil for that though.

Character Builds / Build: Monk 6/Soul Eater 10/Assassin 24 (Bruce Leech)
« Latest: by ebonfowl on February 15, 2022, 05:29:02 PM »
Here is another one for today.

What this build gives you: 17 pre-epic BAB for 6 unarmed attacks per round (7 with flurry of blows); your unarmed attacks apply 2 negative levels each giving you temp HP each time; enemies you kill with your fists are transformed into level-scaled wights you control; wights explode like a bomb on death damaging everyone around (destruction retribution); can shapeshift into any creature you kill with your unarmed attacks for 24 hours (you can even use their special abilities) giving you a boost to physical abilities and AC; wisdom to AC; flurry of blows; hide in plain sight; 17d6 death attack; true death attack; additional bonuses to strength, dexterity, constitution, saves and skill checks for 24 hours after draining levels.

Weak points: critical-immune and sneak attack-immune enemies must just be beat down, no sneak attack damage boost.  High DR and enemies with immunity to level drain may give you trouble - I suggest always having a good enchanted kama handy you can quickly switch to and deal with those enemies.  Not many options for healing - it is a good idea to get regeneration equipment on this build.  The saves and AC are good in this build, but not as crazy high as I like them to be.

Note, this is a great candidate for an undead template like necropolitan (you will need to use Soul Radiance to get a humanoid's form to qualify) for the immunities and getting healed by the negative energy burst when your wights explode.  Make sure to buy off the githzerai level adjustment as soon as you can (level 6 and 9).

Character Builds / Build: Warlock 25/Blackguard 5/Shifter (PnP) 10 (Rake)
« Latest: by ebonfowl on February 15, 2022, 05:02:58 PM »
I noticed there aren't many places to find epic level build ideas for the updated incarnations of the PRC.  I love building epic characters in NWN and I keep my designs in a spreadsheet so I figured I would share them here for anyone else who wants ideas.  Here is my first one.  I also believe this is the best high-level NWN build I have ever played.

What this build gives you: full warlock invoking by level 25, 16 pre-epic BAB for 4 attacks/round; charisma bonus to saves and an additional charisma bonus to one save of your choice; access to shifter forms starting at mid-to-high levels for massive AC, physical stats, and immunities; the ability to infinitely heal yourself (undead shape and utterdark eltritch doom); doubled eldritch blasts (eldritch sculptor, quadrupled with haste); doubled eldritch essences (lord of all essences); damage, attack and save bonus that stacks with each kill (lolth's meat); devastating critical with either falchion or scimitar (your choice, falchion is best but is not in the vanilla game); good scaling spell resistance; and CHILLING TENTACLES!

Weak points: invocations only have a caster level of 25; invocation save DCs are not super high; slows down a bit killing constructs, undead, and other critical-immune monsters.  It may be worth working in extra invocation somewhere to get vitriolic blast to deal with spell resistance and the critical-immune stuff, but lolth's meat generally boosts the damage enough for me.  You could also replace Flee the Scene after level 11 with vitriolic blast, but I would read the notes at the end before doing that - it will essentially force you to primarily use smaller Shifter forms until level 35.

39   WL 24: Epic Eldritch Blast
40   WL 25: 18 CHA

Some shape suggestions for Shifter if you can find them:

27: Asabi Chieftan, Dire Tiger
28: Brown Bear Companion, Bulette
29: Hill/Mountain Giant
30: Androsphinx
31: Battle Devourer
32: Old Red Dragon, Fire Giant
33: Demilich
34: Ancient Red Dragon
37: Dracolich (Best all-around form IMHO)
38: Mithral Golem
40: Prismatic Dragon, Adamantine Golem

Note, this is a great candidate for an undead template like necropolitan for the infinite utterdark eldritch doom healing mentioned above.  Make sure to buy off the drow level adjustment with XP as soon as you can (level 6 and 9).

Note on Flee the Scene: this invocation allows the warlock to teleport a short distance.  This invocation is great for convenience and kiting, but has a special use in this build.  One issue with shifter is that many of the best forms are too large to fit through doors and before Shifter 10 this means you usually have to end your Greater Wildshape whenever you encounter a door.  Flee the Scene allows you to walk up to a door and teleport through, thereby stretching out your daily uses of Greater Wildshape.  Long, narrow passages and bridges will be the only things that will make you return to your normal shape.

It's not supposed to be dragonblooded - it's monstrous humanoid, not dragon subtype, despite the lore. Blame WotC for that.

Spells, Feats, and Skills / Tumble AC
« Latest: by ebonfowl on January 12, 2022, 06:28:51 PM »
I saw tumble AC bonus and spellcraft save bonus were removed.  Is there a way I can re-enable these?  I don't see a switch for it.

I realize it is not reflective of PNP rules to allow them, but it was a nwn character building nuance I enjoyed.
