can you help me in identifying what causes lag?

can you help me in identifying what causes lag?
Have you downloaded & installed drivers from Nvidia? If not, you are using the Microsoft Drivers for your video chip & they don't do OpenGL.
-
they are NotebookForums Optimized Drivers from Fenuxx.
http://www.notebookforums.com/forum304.html
what bothers me more is if the hardware actually meets the recommended requirements for HotU... driver issues can be workaround, I guess.
-
Try these out & see if you get better performance, aside from that, you may want to ask the guy who tweaked the drivers you are using.

thank you. have you noticed wheter there's anything wrong in my INI files?

I seriously doubt you have 2GB of VRAM in a laptop. Have you ran the NWConfig program?
-
of course I did. maybe the custom drivers are messing the thing up? or it does not recognie laptop hardware?

Probably. I'd try the Nvidia drivers & run NWSetup again after you get them installed. I know for a fact the custom drivers you are running have an old version of OpenGL in them.
-
so they're not good? that is a reason I could be getting slowdowns?
-
updated to 257.15 still lags but now I believe it's different. an area where it lagged often was smooth and one smooth now had lag.
EDIT: I don't know wheter it's relevant or not, but I noticed that in the toolset if I jump on the Mist Dragon my CPU usage rises, a lot.
-
unless of course it's the Diamond Edition fault, of my poor performance. I still have my Gold somewhere...

Try turning off all the graphics options & re-enabling them one by one. I think texture animations can cause what you are describing, but I may have the wrong option.
-
so I should disable that option in the ini file?
-
What module are you encountering performance issues with? I've noticed that performance can potentially vary wildly from one to the next, depending on a bunch of factors.
-
in all the OC campaigns and Darkness over Daggerford

I'd disable it in the game via the graphic options.
