Alternate Magic Systems / Re: Coming Eventually...

Just curious if there was any progress on this?

Well keep in mind immunity to death magic doesn't mean immunity to negative energy damage.  It's true that all undead are immune to death magic and can't be hurt by negative energy, but I would figure that a character like a DN would also have spells in his arsenal for dealing with the undead.  Other then undead there aren't a lot of enemies that are immune to death magic and negative energy damage.

Base Classes / Re: Most "powerful" base spellcasting class
« on: September 29, 2013, 12:46:36 AM »
I realize this is an old thread, but I couldn't help wanting to share my 2 cents and it didn't seem like it was something worth creating an entirely new topic about.  Just when it comes to the discussion of what is better a Sorcerer or Wizard.

People will point out how that while sorcerers can cast more spells per day, the wizards are more versatile because they can learn a lot more spells.  I agree with that, but the thing is I just never saw that as an advantage..at least not in NWN(at least, the original campaign and official expansions).  The reason being that if you know what you are doing you don't need a great amount of versatility here.  A wizard can learn a good number of offensive spells overall, while at the same time taking a few key non-offensive spells like stoneskin, premonition, a spell mantle, and then a spell or two that allows for dispelling magic.

You can blast your way through most enemies without having to really get versatile, very few enemies are resistant to more then 1-2 of the elemental damages in the game and even the ones that are resistant to more then 1-2 are still susceptible to straight up magical damage.  Especially once you get access to level 9 spells and get Time Stop.  If you combine that with Isaac's Greater Missile Storm you will be nigh unstoppable, you can stop time and you usually have enough time before it ends to cast about 3 spells.  The greater missile storm can generate a maximum of 20 missiles, which means as soon as the time stop ends 60 magic missiles will suddenly appear and slam into all the enemies around.  This is especially devastating if used on a single enemy.

I have the latest version of the PRC installed and I also have the Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition with the most recently updated patches, etc.  Anyways, I've noticed whenever I create a character and choose a race other then the default ones that came with the game(like aasimar, tiefling, etc.) if this character has magic he does not say anything during spellcasting the way characters normally do in the game.  The spells still work and the animations work, it's just the sound of the spell itself being spoken is gone.

Is this a fixable problem?  Or is it just something you have to deal with if you intend to use one of the non-default races?  I am using the program "Character Creator" 1.8 in order to make my characters.  Perhaps I have done something wrong in the options so I will post what mine are like:

In the settings, the "use custom talk?" box is checked and the file "prconsortium.tlk" file is selected.  Under that the "use default tlk?" is also checked and under that there is no .tlk file selected.  So am I doing something wrong?

Base Classes / Does a Favored Soul use wisdom or charisma?
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:23:52 PM »
I want to try this class in a game, but I'm reading the manual and it has the following description when it comes to spell casting:

"To cast a spell, the Favoured Soul must have a Charisma score of 10 + the spell level. The DC of a Favoured Soul's spell is 10 + Spell Level + Wisdom Modifier. A Favoured Soul's caster level is equal to his class level. He has access to any spell from the Cleric spell list, and casts spells as a Sorcerer does. "

First it says you need to have a charisma score in order to determine the highest level of spells you can cast.  But then it says the DC for spells utilizes your Wisdom modifier.  Which one increases the amount of spells you can cast per day?

Help / Game won't let me use the "Ultrablast" psionic power
« on: October 19, 2010, 07:08:28 PM »
Yeah, at least in my game eradicate had the bug.  As of now I haven't noticed anymore powers that fail to work, but I'll post any I do notice here.

I want to thank everyone who gave advice about this, after I extracted the feat file from the prc2das.hak file and changed the hostile settings the power works fine now.  I did the same things for the eradicate invisibility power and that also works now.

I deleted the feat.2da file I had in the override folder, but I made a backup copy just in case I need it again.

From feat.2da 3.4 beta:

21148 Psion_Ultrablast
21348 Wilder_Ultrablast

I'm sort of confused because I opened up the fead.2da file(it was in the override folder) and I did a search for the word "ultra" and it didn't come up, did a search for the word "psion" and that also didn't come up.

in my feat file it says "2da v2.0" at the top.

Is the file I'm looking for somewhere else?

Ah so are you saying I need to change the hostile feat setting to 0 in the feat.2da file?

EDIT: Nvm that can't be it as there is no "ultrablast" listed in the feat.2da file..which is weird since psionic powers show up under the feats page.

Well then what is the problem?  I just double checked and made sure I set ever ultrablast hostile to 0..it still won't work.  Also I just discovered then when I use the psion version of eradicate invisibility I get the same message as with ultrablast.

Yeah I did that just to be sure, so would I need to create a new character for the changes to take effect?  Or maybe use the PRC updater on the module again?

Ok I did what you said to do and it still is not working.  However, I'm using a character I created before the change..would I need to create a new character for it to work?

Ah I see..how exactly would I do that tho?  I have zero experience working with the NWN toolset..so is that what I use?  I just open up the 2da file and put the hostile setting for the power to 0?

Ok I found a "spell.2da" file and opened it up with notepad.  I see where you can edit the hostile settings..but I don't see the psionic power on the list.  Is there a separate file with the psion powers?

I found a prcpsionics.hak file..but when I open it wit notepad it's all jumbled..do I need to open it with a diff program?

Just as the title says, I recently decided to replay through Hordes of the Underdark with a psion.  So I started up my character, leveled him up, etc.  Then I found whenever I tried to use the "Ultrablast" power I got an error saying I couldn't do so because of PnP settings.  I didn't just try using the power in the inn where you begin the game, I went into the undermountain dungeon itself and still could not get it to work.  Someone in the PRC chat told me to take a screenshot and post it, so here it is: (Sorry for how dark it looks)

Click on the picture and it will get larger so you can see it more clearly.

I don't know what other information might be important in order to figure out the problem, so I will provide as much as I can:

I have the game patched up to 1.69, I have both expansions, and I have a CEP pack 2.2, I had PRC 3.3 when I first saw this problem and just yesterday I upgraded to the 3.4 version and still got this same error.  I also have no mods that clash with the PRC.

So can anyone tell me how to fix this?  Also I tried upping the difficulty to the point where friendly fire was possible and I still got the same results.  In fact I tried it on every difficulty setting just to check, and still the same results.  Also I will note it will not allow me to right click on an enemy and select the Ultrablast power that way either, I guess you can't target anything specific with the power.
