Very helpful post, especially to have a place that actually lists what LA for each race is.  XD  Could such information possibly be included in the racial description, please?  I will add it for you and send you the modded tlk, if you want.  :p

The other thing that would be handy is if racial hit die was listed.  Just makes it kind of difficult when you are trying to find "balanced" races without having to turn LA/RHD on... or if you are going to turn them on, and are trying to figure out how much they are going to screw you for.  :)

Barring that, where is a good place to go to look up the racial hit die adjustment for any given PRC race?

General Discussion / Code Implementation Question
« on: July 02, 2009, 04:04:15 AM »
I should disclaimer this with saying that I have very little experience with working with NWN.  However, I am a pretty quick learner and have slowly been teaching myself to change various things around how I like them (Soulknife with full +1 BAB!  Yay!).  I'm at the point where I'd like to undertake a larger project, namely the creation of a custom class.  However, before I can begin, I need to know whether a couple things are even possible, relating to Domains (something I don't understand the functionality behind very well).

Firstly, is it possible to add "domains" that are a ) Not selectable as cleric domains, b ) Do not give any domain powers, just domain spells, and c ) otherwise identical to the base domains?  Would it just be a matter of duplicating the feat for the domain and removing some code from it?

Secondly, would it be possible to cleanly remove such a domain?  In other words, remove all of the domain spells granted by that domain from the character?

Thirdly, could such a domain be easily swapped at level up for the "full" version of the domain?  i.e., swap out the "spells only" version of the Strength Domain for a full-featured version?

Fourthly, is it possible to modify a character's spells per level per day based on the number of Domains they have?  Er... and by "possible" I mean "reasonably implementable without a highly complicated workaround".  XD

And finally, it there anything preventing a character from having more than two domains?

I recognize that I am probably biting off more than I can chew, but I've found that with modding projects, it's often best to start ambitious.  :)  And with answers to these questions I could at least figure out if the class I am trying to create is even physically possible to implement in NWN.  ^^;

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh, and if it would help clarify exactly what I am trying to accomplish, I can post the full writeup for the class if anyone wants to see it.

General Discussion / PRC Compatible Modules
« on: June 22, 2009, 06:51:49 AM »
Can anyone help me make Elidrin's Random Dungeon Generator PRC-compatible?  It seems to have an issue where gaining experience becomes impossible once the PRC is applied.  Any idea what could be causing this/if its easily fixed?  I've already managed to remove the item strip code (I think) and fix the starting gold for non-base NWN classes, but this one last problem eludes me...

Would also like to note that I would be very, very interested in seeing a PRC-using persistent world.  I'd be glad to offer my help in any way I can to make it happen.  Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of needed skills; like I mentioned earlier, I couldn't even figure out how to make a proper merge hak.  ^^;  And I have no real experience with the toolset...

But I'm certainly willing to try and learn if there is something I can help with.

General Discussion / PRC Compatible Modules

I just went through getting EN6 to work with the PRC; had a lot of issues with it.  I'm not sure that what claims to be the latest CEP/PRC merge hak actually is...  What I ended up doing was taking the CEP2.0 version of EN6, manually removing the tlk from it, and then using the module updater to add the latest merge hak to it.  That seemed to work, but I haven't discovered yet if it will cause problems.

I did notice some blank class names, which is why I think the merge is out of date.  But so far they are classes I don't care about.  :)

If anyone could track down a confirmed CEP2.2/PRC3.3a merge it would be much appreciated; I don't quite have the skill to build one myself.

Prestige Classes / Prestige Class Options for Dread Necromancers?
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:06:10 PM »
What I mean is there was a dialog menu like Duskblades/Psions/etc get for choosing their spells, except it only said "You'll be able to choose more spells when you next gain a level", and no matter how many times a clicked "End Dialog" it wouldn't go away.  And I didn't seem to gain any spells, except the one time it actually let me choose spells, and then I had to manually choose every spell I had available at the time.

Prestige Classes / Prestige Class Options for Dread Necromancers?
« on: June 14, 2009, 02:12:50 PM »
Well, my Dread Necro 20/Lich 10 (With 8 soul gems and full level phylactery) says that it is very possible.  Dread Necros actually don't seem to get a lot out of their Lichdom feat except becoming undead.  However, by taking a Dread Necro to 20, basically without doing anything else, you meet all the prereqs for the Lich class, so I think Lich is the obvious choice for your first ten epic levels.  Past that I'm not sure it matters what you take, because I don't think anything could kill a DN 20/Lich 10...

However, over the course of leveling this character up I encountered some seemingly critical bugs, one of which basically renders it unplayable.  Firstly is that one of the Dread Necro's first level spells seems to be named "-5" and has the description for the "reduce spellfire level by 5" feat.  Secondly is that the DN seems to get Practiced Spellcaster (Warmage) instead of Practiced Spellcaster (Dread Necro), although the feat still gave me enough caster level to take Demilichdom, so I don't know if that is merely a typographical error.  The final and most serious is that with one exception where it seemed to glitch into working for one level, I was unable to choose spells as a Dread Necro.  I got a constant "You will be able to choose more spells when you next gain a level" dialog that wouldn't go away unless I talked to an NPC.

I was also getting a lot of TMI errors for various things by the epic levels, and a repeated "Feat gained Undead HD 0" message.  Oh, and the Illithid Wizard cohort I took as a lark started generating stack overflow errors once I reached a high level.  Dunno what that means or if it is important, but all this bugginess has turned me off to actually playing this god of a character I just created.

Prestige Classes / Prestige Class Options for Dread Necromancers?

Are you sure the Dread Necro stops at 20?  I see feats listed for epic levels in the manual...  Even if they can't, you can take Practiced Spellcaster to have your first 4 levels of Lich add to your caster level and that will easily get you into Demilichdom.

Anyway, you've spiked my interest, so tomorrow I'm gonna level a Dread Necro up to 20+ and test out Dread Necro/Lich and how the Dread Necro Lichdom works.  Will report back after testing.

What does the Lichdom benefit for the Dread Necro actually do?  If its benefits are lesser than those of the Lich prestige class, that could be a viable option.  If you wanted to emphasize the "evil" aspect of the character, any of the Disciples of ~insert demon here~ or Thrall of Graz'zt or Orcus seem like possibilities.

I agree that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of PrCs that seem designed for the Dread Necromancer, especially as a pure caster...

Prestige Classes / Cerebremancer Weirdness

Figured out what it was with Keen.  I feel like an idiot.  ^^;  Didn't realize I had to have the spell prepared, not just know it...

Help / List of Code Switches?
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:55:25 PM »
Ah, thank you very much, that's exactly what I was looking for.  Is there any way a readme or online list of some kind could be created?  Seems like it would be a bit more convenient...

Prestige Classes / Cerebremancer Weirdness

Thanks for the reply.  Oh, well, I guess scrolls it is.  Might be helpful to have something explaining that drawback in the Cerebremancer description?  And I still can't craft weapons with Keen now, even as a Wizard 5/Psion 4/Cerebremancer 3...  I'm very tempted to turn on arbitrary crafting; it's horribly overpowered, but I'm finding myself frustrated by the extremely strict limits on crafting (I specialized in Evocation so I can never craft any Bane weapons?  No way to add elemental damage/bonus damage/massive criticals to weapons at all?).  I recognize these are probably PnP limits, but it feels like I have to choose between extremely limited crafting, or extremely overpowered crafting.

I suppose that does make sense for Dragon Disciple...  Is it intentional that you specifically need Dragontouched to take Dragon Heritage, though, and not just the dragonblooded subtype?

Help / List of Code Switches?
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:44:18 PM »
I am trying to find descriptions of what the massive number of code switches actually do.  The only clue I have is the (rather unhelpful) "see prc_inc_switches for details" line of dialog in the PRC menu.  Nothing in the manual or anywhere else indicates what "prc_inc_switches" is or where to find it, nor does there seem to be a list posted online anywhere.  A google search only turns up other people who can't find prc_inc_switches either.

I am afraid I am getting rather frustrated with this whole endeavor and was wondering if someone could kindly point me in the right direction?

Prestige Classes / Cerebremancer Weirdness
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:45:00 PM »
My friend and I are going through Shadows of Undrentide together, him as a Silverbrow Paladin/Dragon Devotee/Vassal of Bahamut and me as a Kalashtar Psion/Wizard/Cerebremancer.  It's really quite a lot of fun and we're having a blast, but lately I've been noticing some oddness with the Cerebremancer and I'm wondering if it's working as intented of if there is some kind of weird bug.

First off, my level is currently Wizard 5/Psion 3/Cerebremancer 2.  I just took Craft Magic Arms and Armor, and earlier I took Practiced Spellcaster (Wizard).  Eager to try it out, I grabbed my friend's main weapon (the Tinnoman's Sword) and buffed it up to a +3 weapon, which worked just fine.  However, I was unable to add Keen to the weapon, despite knowing the Keen Edge spell and having enough gold and XP.  Does Cerebremancer  not add to your caster level?  I should be caster level 10, sholdn't I?

The second thing I've noticed is that I don't seem to gain new Wizard spells upon gaining a level of Cerebremancer.  I gain new spells per day, power points, and powers just fine, but I have to use the "buy any scroll you want" PRC menu to learn new spells (Unrelated side note: That shop is a mess; would it be at all possible to divide it into separate shops based on spell class and level?), which feels a little bit like cheating.  Is this intentional?  And if it applies to Sorcerors as well, how the heck are they supposed to learn new spells as a Cerebremancer?

Anyway, these two issues aside, I want to say that the PRC is a simply amazing upgrade to NWN that I really can't play without anymore.  I even have a hard time playing NWN2; even though I consider it a better game than NWN, I just can't live without all the new features from the PRC.  :)

Oh!  Almost forgot to mention the one issue my friend had with his character.  Despite Silverbrow Human claiming to give the dragonblooded subtype, taking Dragon Heritage(Silver) without Dragontouched causes you to be unable to level.  Is this intentional?  It seems like SIlverbrow Humans shouldn't need to take Dragontouched.  Also, it would be nice if there was a way for Silverbrow Humans and other characters that emphasize their dragon heritage to take Dragon Disciple without needing a level of Sorceror/Bard; my friend had originally wanted to be a Paladin/Dragon Disciple/Vassal of Bahamut but discovered that the combination is impossible due to the three class limit.
