Hi all, i've a PW and i use Prc with several other haks(cep, ccp, and so on)

I've never thought to translate the prc files, cause it's a crazy proj, but a couple of the players that play on my pw, has told me that they want to translate the files.
Ok they will begin with word files for the site and to have the pdf, but i'm wandering how can we translate the game files. It's not a simple work and it's not little; but with months of work, and with a group of persons i think it can be done. We should try.
I've posted it not cause i want to "speak" before "doing" but because the huge amount of work. Similar projects need organization to not lose precious days in stupid passages or things. So you could surely give us some tips to do this work without wasting time.

Hillyan

I think you should translate game files first (the manual is auto generated from tlk file).

So you'll have to translate *.tlk, *.utc, *.uti, *.dlg and *.nss files :P

For tlk translation I would recommend a program that can export the contents of the file to xml format (it's much easier to edit it in text editor):
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=687

As for other files try NWNMultiLang:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=393
This utility will find most of the text strings displayed in the game and export them to txt file. You can translate them and import them back :)

Good luck!!!

Both the programs won't work, but i've found even a better program that i reccomend to all: killer tlk editor, simple, working and perfect.

Now i'm trying to found an editor of all the module files(uti, nss etc) that works for me.

I will let you know how is going my work.

Why i cannot translate only the tlk files? What are the nss, uti files?

Edit: ok i've opened it in a new doc with nwn multilang. It works if you close the toolset on that module^^

Now i'm watching at these files...these are the module's file, i don't need to translate them.

I need to translate only the classes, spells, feats in the game interface and i can do this translating the tlk, is it right?

Most of the text strings are located in tlk file, but some (names, messages, descriptions etc.) are also stored in other files (don't ask me why :| ):
*.nss - scripts,
*.dlg - conversations
*.utc - creature blueprints
*.uti - item blueprints

There isn't much text in there, but if you want to do full translation it would be nice if you had those translated too.

Oh, and don't translate entries for alternate magic systems (new spell books, invocations etc) with 'class name'+('metamagic name' )+'spell/invocation name' format - those can be generated automatically when you finish translating the spells.

And what about the autogenerating manual? I've translated the ocular adept right now.
I'm wandering if i have to copy the text into my pw prestige classes page or if have i to generate the manual after all the work

How can i generate the manual to see this thing?

All files needed to generate the manual are in SVN repository ('DocGen' branch). You can download them form there. The process generates whole manual (AFAIK no options to generate single pages) so I recommend translating all contents from tlk file first. Same with the spells - first translate all names and than generate new spell book entries.

If there are no special characters in Italian (like ą, ę, ł, ś etc. in Polish)* everything should go easy ;)

*Heh, this forum can't even display them

Hello hillyan, perhaps I could help translating. Actually I would also like to know about your module, I always wanted to play on an italian prc pw.
