Sometimes when you run into a new creature, you want to learn its shape but not shift into it right away. I'm experimenting with such a feature (right now I'm calling it "Study Shape", although "Learn Shape" might be better), and I'm liking it a lot.

Here's where I need the input: should learning a new shape use up one of your Greater Wildshape uses per day, or should you be able to learn any number of shapes per day and only have the number of times you can actually shift be limited? I can see arguments on both sides. I'm particularly interested in what the official PnP rules (with which I'm not very familiar) have to say, but am also interested in personal opinions.

If I understand it correctly, the ability is used when shifter assumes a new form.

The source book (Masters of the Wild) doesn't mention anything specific about learning new shapes - the only limitations are:
- HD of the creature you want to change into
- level of shifter class.

I guess you could set 'Learn Shape' feat as unlimited uses per day ;)
