Prestige Classes / Re: Modifying Shifter pnp class - possible?
« on: December 06, 2012, 08:11:17 AM »
I wonder if it is possible to make a small modification to PNP shifter class - so your normal wildshape/learn form functions like epic version, copying spells and special abilities from a creature?

This would be cheating, but really nice for modules where you never get to epic levels for having some fun with creature abilities.

For anyone who's set up to build the prc, this should be fairly easy, I believe. Unfortunately I'm not at this point, but I could point you in the right direction if you are.

Nope.

If I'm playing with NWNX, then when the rakashasa PC shift into a human, his race will become "ountsider".

If I'm playing without NWNX, then his race will stay in rakashasa.

I'm playing PRC 3.5 now.

Here's an earlier thread on a similar topic: http://prc.athasreborn.com/index.php?topic=1511.msg6590#msg6590.

Note that some way down the thread I describe how to remove the PnP Shifter race-change feature from prc. The following posts discuss consequences of removing the feature (not many). Since you're having problems with it, I suggest you remove it.

I'm trying to play as the PNP shifter with the nwnx_funcs.dll.  Since the newest version of nwnx_funcs.dll (0.0.9.4.1) causes nwsever.exe to crash when loading PRC modules, I'm currently using 0.0.8.9 instead.

The stats bonus of shifting looks fine.  However, the only problem is: if you are playing a char with prc new race, then when you polymorph to another shape, the race will be changed!  For example, if you are playing rakshasa, then after you polymorph, your race will become outsider.

This won't happen when I'm playing without using NWNX.  So I'm quite lost.  Do you have any clue for what's the problem?  Thanks a lot.

This is an experimental feature; I thought it had been removed, but apparently not. When you shift into a new form, you get the race of the new form. You should revert to your original race when you unshift.

General Discussion / Re: NWNX - Does it require seperate server?
« on: November 23, 2012, 02:06:41 PM »
If you play PnP shifter without nwnx_funcs you will notice that stat bonuses from different shapes are treated as magical bonuses (and thus capped at +12). nwnx_funcs allows to modify character stats, so shifter shapes are no longer limited in this way.

This is true, and nwnx is by far the best way to play PnP shifter, but I'll point out that prc goes out of it's way (very far out of its way) to work around the +12 limit if you're not using nwnx. For instance, it will change your AB, skills, saves, etc. to what they would be if you had gotten the full stat bonus instead of it being limited to +12.

I used to run NWServer and NWN on the same machine all the the time for single-player games just to get the benefit of NWNX for the PnP Shifter class. I don't know of any reason why you couldn't do it for multiplayer games, but I'm not really an expert on that.

Base Classes / Re: Warblade tips please

...if I take away my Warblade levels in debug mode except for my first level, and then continue solely as fighter, will I keep the ability to switch my weapon-specific feats over to new weapons when I rest?

You've probably figured this out already, but the answer is yes.

It has been a long time since I looked at this so I might be completely off base, but I seem to remember a problem that level drain worked with gloves but not bracers (or possibly the other way around, though I think not). Try it with no gloves or bracers on at all, and if it starts working you'll know that what you're seeing is probably this issue.

Technical details: if I'm remembering correctly, the problem was that PRC couldn't add the necessary OnHit property to bracers, but it could to gloves.

Spells, Feats, and Skills / Re: Epic Spellcasting feat
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:32:54 AM »
Is there a way to get epic spellcasting working for PRC classes?  I want a straight Archivist or Dread Necro, but Epic Spells won't work.
Just put this file in prc_2das.hak.

Another good reason most of us should be donating to the EOS guys. :D
EOS? European Orthodontic Society? ;p

Maybe this? http://sourceforge.net/projects/eosnwneditor/

I'd never heard of it before, but it was the most relevant thing I could find.

Prestige Classes / Re: PnP Shifter change -- for PRC 3.4?

Everything xwarren says is correct.

Uh, what? :D
lol

lol x2 :)

Of course, I meant everything he said in the post I quoted, of course, but when he's talking 'bout the PRC, he knows his stuff.

I just tried to change into a hammerhead shark (str26) but it capped at 22 (base str is 10).
So, it isn't working.
Well, to be honestI don't really know how to use the NWNX, maybe that's the problem.

=(

If you aren't running the dedicated server, you aren't running NWNx2.  Also, you can't mod an ability by more than 12 points.  I think NWNx2 gets around this limitation, so it sounds like you may not have it set up properly.

Look at HOWTO #4 for more info on setting up a server.

Everything xwarren says is correct. I would like to point out one more thing, though: although your strength is capped at 22, the PNP Shifter code goes to great lengths to simulate a greater strength increase when NWNx2 isn't running. For instance, it increases your attack bonus, damage bonus, strength based skills, and so on, as close as it can to what they would be if you had gotten the full increase. So you're getting many of the benefits of a greater strength increase even now.

Prestige Classes / Re: Shifter problem vs Damage Reduction
« on: January 21, 2012, 12:08:12 PM »
Sorry, it's the PNP shifter.  I've tried a mix of the "package" form choices supplied by the class  (Revenant, Stag Beetle, Drow Warrior, Battle Devourer) - along with others that I've 'learned' in game  (various other Drow, Troll, Dire Bear).  I really first noticed it when fighting the various undead in the Hall of the Sleeping Kings (Undermountain level 1) when I had alot of trouble damaging them. After that I started paying attention to the log in other fights and saw that any opponent with Damage Reduction absorbed some of my damage regardless of the form or weapon that I used. Nameless Light and Enserric (picked up on that level) should pierce the DR of most opponents, especially the occasional drow who have dr 5/+1 (IIRC).

I've tried shifting with a weapon equipped (thinking perhaps the weapon properties 'merge' with the form) and with one or both hands empty, equipping the weapon(s) once I've completed the shift. Nothing seems to work (at least consistently).

I also notice that sometimes when equipping  a weapon when shifted, the weapon properties show a new temporary 'on hit' property. I don't know if it's connected to the issue.

It will use the properties of whatever weapon you have equipped, including for DR penetration. If you don't have a weapon equipped, it will use the creature weapon of whatever form you're in, which usually has pretty poor DR penetration. Note that the Character Sheet sometimes incorrectly shows the creature weapon properties when the game engine is actually using the properties of your equipped weapon.

I've had the same problem as you penetrating the DR of the creatures on Hall of the Sleeping Kings, but they went away when I used a weapon with good enough DR penetration. I don't remember if Enserric qualifies, but I do know that weapons are available, I believe both at vendors and in other places in that level, that do.

Spells, Feats, and Skills / Re: Natural Spell for Druids
« on: January 18, 2012, 08:19:08 AM »
as for using the feat, yea, pnp shifter is able to use it, tho he dosn't need it for ALL his shapes, some creatures don't need it, but it's safe to take it.

I would go farther: *many* of the PnP Shifter shapes can use spells without Natural Spell. It tries (not very accurately, sometimes, unfortunately--it has to guess, based on race I believe) to allow you to cast spells if the shape you're in can normally cast spells. Before taking the Natural Spell feat, make sure you really need it.

The easiest way to tell which shapes have this ability is that the info that prints out when you shift into a shape or get info on a shape contains a line that tells whether casting spells requires Natural Spell or not. I forget the exact wording, but it should be fairly obvious if you're looking for it.

Prestige Classes / Re: shifter - concentration skill
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:52:10 PM »
Is the concentration skill necessary for any of the shifter abilities?
I would say no, but I haven't played shifter recently. CapnQ will know better.

It *is* possible for shifting to be interrupted, so you might want Concentration for that reason. However, it's quite rare for it to happen, and you can always just shift again, so if you need the points elsewhere then put them elsewhere.

It's also worth remembering that Concentration can be useful to a Shifter if he casts other spells. For instance, in one of my favorite builds, Shaman / Shifter / Shining Blade of Heironeous, I take Concentration to prevent Divine Might/Shield, Shock/Holy/Brilliant Blade, and my Shaman spells (mostly Restoration and the like, as I don't have enough caster levels for offensive spells to be very useful) from being interrupted.

Help / Re: Dragonfire Adept Humanoid Shape question
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:56:23 AM »
I stand corrected. After I tried it again, I was able to take the class with a sorcerer, but only as my level 10 class, although I fulfilled the requirements after level 8 (ie not as my lvl 9 class).

You have to actually be able to cast Polymorph Self when you level up to take PnP Shifter. Perhaps when you took level 9 you had used up all your level 4 spells, so you couldn't actually cast Polymorph Self, so you couldn't take PnP Shifter. If that was the problem, sleeping would have fixed it. That's not the way we'd like it to work: due to scripting limitations, it's the best we can do.

Quote
As for the Dragonfire Adept, it is possible to select Shifter, as long as you are able to cast 3rd level spells (I took levels as Sorcerer to do so), a requirement that I either failed to notice initially, or I did and thought that picking DFA would qualify me for it, as the Lesser invocations count as 3rd and 4th level spell (at least that's what the descriptions on the manual and in game say and Humanoid Shape counts as 3rd level spell, as is Warlock's Mask of Flesh), but I guess it doesn't work that way.

I'm pretty sure the Shifter description used to say "3rd level arcane or divine spells", but that must have gotten lost when I worked on the description a while ago. I'll fix that. In any case, that's how it actually works, so warlock invocations don't count toward the Shifter "3rd level spells" requirement. This means that a warlock needs to have an alternate form through invocations and also be able to cast 3rd level arcane or divine spells though another class. I expect the same applies to Dragonfire Adept.

Quote
In any case, I posted this because of my concerns that something had gone wrong during the installation. My original question is whether or not the DFA's Humanoid Shape is supposed to work as Alter Self, ie assuming a form and storing it, or just assuming the form, in which case the options and quickslots have no use being there (and if it's so, it is what misled me in believing that DFA can store his assumed shapes).

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this, and I'm not in a position to investigate at the moment.

Help / Re: Dragonfire Adept Humanoid Shape question
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:14:34 AM »
PS: I'm starting to think my installation if messed up. Unless there is something I should have done to enable it, the Shifter (PnP) PrC can only be taken as a druid (so far, I have tried to take the class with both a sorcerer with Polymorph Self or Dragonfire Adept with Humanoid Shape, as stated in the class' description). I'll get the pack installed on a clean module, see what happens.

Druid is not required. I frequently play a Shaman/PnP Shifter, getting the "You must be able to assume an alternate form" prerequisite from my race.

Looking at the code, Sorcerer with Polymorph Self should work (assuming you meet all the other prerequisites), although I've never actually done it myself. As far as I can see, Humanoid Shape doesn't work, however, except for the special case of Warlock with the Humanoid Shape invocation. Not sure why that is. For a detailed list of what should work, see the "Requirements" section of http://nwnprc.com/manual/index.html if you haven't already.
