Do the Lich/Demilich templates actually change previous and future hit dice to d12s and eliminate the con modifier's effect on HP?

My first lich char (wizard) seemed to gain no HP on becoming a lich (he had 10 con, so no modifier).

The structure of NWN makes it impossible to eliminate the constitution score or retroactively raise all the hit dice to D12. The same effect is approximated by adding +12 to constitution instead. Whenever I apply the lich template, my hit points roughly double, depending a little on the class I started with and how high my constitution was in the first place. If you are not seeing that constitution boost, something is wrong.
